Enjoy a week of summer fun where everyone understands!

CAMP GO BeYOND was created in 2001 by Dr. Mel Heyman, Chief of Pediatric Gastroenterolgy at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital in San Francisco as Camp Gut Busters.  Our mission is to provide a free camp experience where children ages 7-17 diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD): Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, can have fun in a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment.

Made possible by  generous donations, camp has been FREE FOR ALL ATTENDEES since its inception.

Who can apply?

CAMP GO BeYOND welcomes campers and volunteer counselors who have been diagnosed with IBD (Crohn's Disease or Ulcerative Colitis). Our campers are ages  7-16; Counselors-in-Training (CIT) must be age 17 by the first day of camp; and Counselors are ages 18 and over. Everyone under age 18 must be cleared by his/her personal physician. The physician form is part of the Application Packet.  All volunteers are fingerprinted and background checked.

Campers and counselors who can provide their own transportation to/from beautiful Livermore, CA are welcome to apply.

Supportive Medical Staff and Counselors

Our camp is staffed by physicians and nurses with expertise in IBD. In addition, almost all of our volunteer  counselors are IBD patients which gives them unique insight into the issues and challenges associated with living with IBD. Camper medications are safely stored in our Med Shed and  are dispensed by our on-site nurses according to the campers' specifically prescribed schedule.

Location: Camp Arroyo, Livermore

A big THANK YOU! To ABC7 for visiting our camp. Cheryl Jennings visits the kids!

We met so many kids at Camp Arroyo today with serious illnesses... and they are having the best time at camp! This young boy waited patiently while we did several interviews and said he REALLY wanted to tell his story...and he wanted me in the video with him! He is so cute! He has a future in broadcasting!! Thank you, Vicki Hummer, for being our photographer for this little interview for The Taylor Family Foundation What do you know about Crohn's disease or Ulcerative Colitis or IBD? I didn't know much at all and I am learning a lot from young Ben and @campgutbusters @campgobeyond #DrMel UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital
